Hi, my name is Emily and my training partner's name is Sasha. As you can tell from our bio picture, Sasha is a Belgian Malinois. I acquired Sasha via a friend of mine that needed someone to adopt and provide her a good home. She was a year and half old with no training what so ever.
Sasha is the first Malinois that Dustin, my fiance', and I had ever owned. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into with such a high drive dog. We quickly realized that Sasha living in the house was going to require some major training. So Dustin and I started the hunt for a good dog trainer.
As fate would have it, I was in Sam's Club and standing in front of me at the check-out line was Luke Weathers with his grandson, Jeremiah. I had a box of Milk Bones and some other things. Luke and Jeremiah were buying some dog food. While in line we struck up a conversation. Luke asked if I owned a dog and I replied that I have six (6) of them. He asked me what breeds and I starting giving him the entire list. He asked how I liked my Malinois and I said very much so but that she needed some manners. He then told me about the Blues City Schutzhund Club and gave me a quick synopsis of what the sport was all about.
The overall view of the Schutzhund Sport intrigued me. I was really interested and shortly after leaving Sam's Club I emailed Luke. The following Saturday Dustin and I brought Sasha to training with the BCSC for an evaluation to determine her propensity to do the sport. As a result, we are off to a good start and doing well in all three phases. When we are ready, look out for new competitors.
